The General Electric Co. (or GEC) is one of the great names in consumer electronics especially in the USA. However, the brand is not well-known for its digital cameras... until now. General Imaging, GEC's exclusive licensee for camera manufacture, has produced a slew of new cameras with innovative features... and very aggressive prices, it's hoped.
The G series will be a range of internal-zoom slim compacts, the first of which is the G2. This eight megapixel camera is just 18mm thick and sports a 4x optical zoom and a 2.7" LCD screen. Available in black or silver as standard, the camera can also be supplied in seven additional colours. The G2 price is expected to be around £99 and the product should be in the stores soon. We hope to have a test sample as soon as they ship, too.
All the GE cameras across all the ranges have common feature sets, common layout and even share the same manual. This not only saves trees, but means if you decide to upgrade through the GE range, the features and handling remain the same. Alongside commonplace features like image stabilisation, red-eye removal and a brace of 14 screen modes, the cameras all sport in-camera panorama stitching and add blink and smile detection to the now-standard face detection.
