The new Nikon D60 is the ideal DSLR for newcomers looking for both a well priced and feature packed option.
Replacing the D40x, the D60 picks up in this line of Nikon tradition - opting for the Nikon AF-S lens type - but is an intelligent fusion of recent Nikon pro technology squeezed into a small-bodied entry level model. The 10.2megapixel CCD sensor now benefits from Nikon's new Expeed digital image processing concept.
Active D-lighting is an optional process (as per the D3 or D300) that compensates for difficult lighting conditions by producing optimised exposures.
Plus there's a whole host of “small change, big difference” upgrades with the D60 - expect a modified user-interface menu, including in-camera quick retouch options. Other 'fun' options are available too, including the stop motion animation feature. Take a series of snaps and you can process them together and export as an MPEG to your computer.
Dust reduction has been turned up a notch, too. Not only does the D60 operate Nikon's Image Sensor Cleaning function (CCD-shift), there's now an exclusive Airflow Control System. This system cleverly benefits from the direction of airflow caused by the shutter in the mirror box - where small ducts near the base capture any dust.
No longer will as much dust be able to float around in the mirror box of your camera - with the clear intention being for confident changing of lenses.
Available February, RRP £450 (Body only), £500 (AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II kit lens option) or £530 (AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR (vibration reduction) kit lens option).
