Olympus has added a new superwide to its expanding portfolio of Four-Thirds lenses. The new 9-18mm f/4-5.6 lens is equivalent to a 18-36mm lens on a 35mm camera and designed as an affordable superwide (as opposed to the 7-14mm f/4 professional-grade lens). It is an ideal partner for the company's 18-180mm f/3.5-6.3 lens.
Comprising 13 lens elements in nine groups (including one aspherical ED lens and two aspherical elements), the 280g lens is just 79.5mm in diameter and
73mm in length. It is claimed to focus as close as 25cm.
The Olympus Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f/4-5.6 lens will be available from September 2008. Price is still to be confirmed.
